Luna Loves Dance – for families and schools

Family Learning Festival invites Families to Draw and Dance Along in Free Online Storytelling Event Join the Family Learning Festival for a fun-filled celebration of dance and family as author Joseph Coelho and illustrator Fiona Lumbers share their new picture book, Luna Loves Dance, online at 10am on Friday 29 October. In a free 45-minute storytelling and dance event for families with children aged 3+, the Family Learning Festival will celebrate every culture and every style of dance with a special reading of Luna Loves Dance by author Joseph Coelho. Then, families will be invited to grab their pens, pencils and paper and join illustrator Fiona Lumbers in a spot of live drawing as she demonstrates how she brings Luna to life. And finally, families will see where Luna’s passion for dance comes from as professional dancer Molly Barton teaches dance moves that everyone can try! Multi award-winning bookshop Tales on Moon Lane in Ramsgate have partnered with Family Learning Festival to support the event with book sales, donating 10% of all sales to Campaign for Learning to help continue their mission of championing lifelong learning nationally. John Beattie, Deputy Director (Families) at Campaign for Learning said, “We’re thrilled to be celebrating this year’s Family Learning Festival with a national event that families can join from anywhere in the UK! On top of all of the incredible in-person and digital events which community centres, libraries, museums, galleries and schools are planning for their local communities, Luna Loves Dance offers an extra event giving families around the UK a shared experience of this year’s theme - Play, Imagine, Learn.” Fiona Lumbers, illustrator of Luna Loves Dance, said, “I'm over the moon to be part of the festival, bringing families together with stories, art and fun.” Nicci Rosengarten, Manager, Tales on Moon Lane Ramsgate & Creative Director, Moon Lane Group said, "Ever since Luna first came into our lives with her passion for books in 'Luna Loves Library Day' in 2017 we have felt that this series, by super-duo author Joseph Coelho and illustrator Fiona Lumbers, embodies so much of the Moon Lane mission with inclusivity and empathy wrapped up in the joy of reading and children seeing themselves in a book. 'Luna Loves Art' was a bestseller for us in 2020, followed by 'Luna Loves World Book Day' in 2021, and we are absolutely thrilled to continue our support and collaboration with Andersen Press, Joseph and Fiona for 'Luna Loves Dance' and beyond...and are therefore further delighted to be collaborating with Campaign for Learning’s Family Learning Festival 2021." This event is supported by Andersen Press who have made it possible for families to win a complete set of the Luna Loves series by sharing their best dance moves and Luna Loves Dance drawings! To enter families should share their Luna Loves Dance drawings or a video of their amazing dance moves by tagging @FLFestival on twitter or emailing them to [email protected] Competition closes 5 November 2021. Winners will be notified on 12 November 2021. Full T&Cs online. This event is free to attend, though booking is essential. About the Family Learning Festival

This year the 23rd Family Learning Festival runs from 16 – 31 October. Events are free local activities for all generations. They are designed to be fun, informal and promote a culture of learning as a family. They bring children, mums, dads, aunts, uncles, grandparents and their family friends together to try something new and learn with and from each other. Schools, libraries, museums, galleries, community centres and more open their doors for the Festival.

The first Family Learning Festival was celebrated in 1999, when the Campaign for Learning devised a plan to inspire a love of learning in family life. Since then the Festival has taken place every October and is now the biggest festival celebrating and valuing learning together as a family.
